Imperfect by design. Built for those who refuse conformity.

We are pleased to introduce Velatura, a distinctive new brick that combines the warmth of natural terracotta with the softly aged appearance of a traditional white washed finish.

This is a centuries-old decorative technique in which a pale mortar or lime-based coating is hand worked irregularly across the surface of brickwork. Rather than completely concealing the brick, the finish allows areas of the underlying clay to remain visible. The result is a layered, weathered appearance with the character of masonry that has evolved naturally over generations.

Velatura captures this aesthetic within the brick itself. A hand-applied white finish moves across each face with varying intensity—sometimes forming a light veil,  and elsewhere leaving the rich terracotta almost entirely exposed. The contrast between the earthy red clay and chalky white surface gives the brickwork warmth, depth and a beautifully time-worn quality.

As the finish is applied by hand, no two Velatura bricks are exactly alike. Variations in texture, colour, white coverage and edge character are not imperfections to be removed; they are fundamental to the product’s identity. When the bricks are blended and laid together, these differences create a richly varied façade that cannot be replicated through uniform, machine-made production.

Whats in a name

The name Velatura refers to the artistic technique of applying thin, translucent layers of colour, allowing the surface beneath to remain partially visible. It perfectly describes the way the white finish settles across these bricks—softening the terracotta without hiding its natural warmth or character.

Velatura is equally suited to contemporary architecture and more traditional designs. It can bring softness and history to a modern façade, create the relaxed character of an old European home, or provide an expressive feature wall within an interior.

These are bricks designed for projects that value authenticity over uniformity. Handmade, richly textured and deliberately individual, Velatura celebrates variation rather than attempting to control it.

Perfectly imperfect is about celebrating character, individuality and the beauty of natural variation. With Velatura bricks, subtle differences in texture, terracotta colour and the hand-applied finish give each brick its own personality. Uneven edges and variations in coverage bring warmth and depth to the finished wall, creating an appearance that feels layered rather than manufactured to a formula. With a softened Velatura face on one side and pure terracotta on the other, you become part of the creative process, choosing the balance as each brick is laid. The beauty lies in those differences: no two bricks are exactly alike, and no two walls need to be either.

Dual Face

Our Velatura bricks are dual faced  which invites you to be the artist of your own brickwork. With the signature Velatura finish applied to just one side, every brick also offers a pure terracotta face, giving you the freedom to customise the look as you build. Choose predominantly softened, white-smeared faces, showcase more of the natural terracotta warmth, or blend the two to create your own balance of colour and texture. By choosing which face to reveal, you can create brickwork that is uniquely yours.
