Vintage Red

Vintage Red bricks are heritage-style red bricks distinguished by their exposure to higher kiln temperatures during firing. This additional heat pushes the clay beyond the more predictable red and terracotta tones of traditional heritage bricks, producing deeper, richer colours with greater natural variation.

Expect a broad palette of deep reds, burnt terracottas, burgundies and dark earthy tones, often accompanied by distinctive blue-black flashes, darker headers and heavily fired surfaces. The result is a brick with genuine depth and character, where variation is not a manufactured effect but a direct consequence of the firing process.

The hotter kiln temperatures also create greater variation in brick size and shape. Vintage Reds can be more irregular than standard heritage bricks, with dimensional variation forming an important part of their aged, authentic appearance. They are intended for projects where individuality and variation are celebrated rather than engineered away.

Importantly, Vintage Reds are produced by the kiln rather than to a predictable production quantity. The number of bricks achieving the required colour and character varies from firing to firing, and some firings may produce very few suitable bricks. Availability can therefore be limited and difficult to predict.

For this reason, Vintage Reds should be ordered well in advance of when they are required on site. If your project depends on this particular brick, we strongly recommend securing your quantity early rather than assuming stock will be available closer to construction. Their unpredictability is part of what makes Vintage Reds distinctive: you cannot completely control what the kiln creates.
