Fire Bricks

Fire bricks are specially manufactured refractory bricks designed to withstand the extreme temperatures generated inside fireplaces, pizza ovens, wood-fired ovens, kilns and other high-heat applications. Unlike standard clay bricks, they are made from high alumina, low iron refractory clays that retain their strength and structural integrity even after repeated heating and cooling cycles.

Their natural colour is typically a warm cream, buff or light amber. This colour is a direct result of the specialised refractory clay used in their manufacture and is an indication of performance rather than aesthetics. Once installed and exposed to regular fires, the bricks will gradually darken with soot and carbon deposits, meaning their original colour is rarely visible in service.

Fire bricks provide excellent resistance to thermal shock, helping them withstand rapid temperature changes without cracking. They also possess low thermal conductivity, allowing them to absorb and store heat before slowly releasing it back into the firebox. This improves combustion efficiency and helps maintain consistent temperatures.

When selecting fire bricks, performance should always take precedence over appearance. Their role is to protect the structure of the fireplace or oven and ensure safe, reliable operation under extreme heat. Choosing a fire brick based solely on its colour or visual appearance is missing the point entirely, as once the fireplace is in use, the bricks quickly become blackened and their original colour is no longer visible.

  • Items per pallet: 486 bricks
  • Approx size: 230mm x 65mm x 110mm
