Handcrafted, Unique and Timeless

Sandstock bricks are characterised by a texture that represents deep elephant skin creasing, giving them a wonderful character. This texture is our signature, we love the natural charm it brings to our bricks.

So what makes a genuine sandstock? They are made using the "Sandstruck" method in which the clay is pressed into moulds dusted with fine sand. Fake varieties don't develop this unique texture and whilst commonly associated with heritage brick styles, sandstocks can also come in more contemporary colour styles. Its similarity to bricks used in 17th century England and 19th century Australia is due to the traditional method we use to manufacture these bricks and is a testament to the craftsmanship of our brick makers. A reclamation version of our soft red brick. Subtle soft orange and red tonal changes characterised by our classic elephant skin creasing finish. This brick undergoes a unique process to give the appearance of a reclaimed brick including random white scumming and tumbled edges.

Produced from hotter parts of the kiln, careful selection and blending of bricks from these locations produces our Vintage Red. Characterised by shade variations and overburns producing a beautiful array of red hues to form this classic vintage red. Considerable variation in colour and overburns will occur with this brick due to the random nature of how they are produced in the firing process. Only a limited number of Vintage Reds are produced in each firing and thus should be ordered well in advance.

Weathered Reclamation Heritage Red

The classic “old red brick” with subtle red, orange and brown tonal changes, the classic elephant skin creasing look with lime scumming and sooted rustic patina. This brick can be blended with our Reclamation Soft Red to create custom and timeless colour tones. This brick undergoes a special process to give it the appeal of a reclaimed brick including random white scumming and tumbled edges.

Sandstruck Hampton

Dusky white/ivory/pink handmade sandstock brick reminiscent of natural sandstone. Please be aware that light coloured bricks which are based on natural ivory coloured clays will show pinks through to pale reds/apricot due to iron within the clay. Light coloured and tinted bricks should always be sealed immediately after laying to prevent staining and to help maintain the weathered appearance.

Ghost Grey

Reduction fired through colour hand moulded brick. Dominated by silvery white greys with minor medium greys and dark blue grey flashes.

Special Cleaning Requirements for Reclamation Styles

Our reclamation styles, which can be identified by the white scumming on the brick surface, should not be wet sponged, acid washed or high pressure cleaned. During laying, the excess mortar should be cut off with a trowel and the brickwork should be constantly dry brushed. The bricks from the pallets are left intentionally dusty, this allows mortar dags and smears on the work face to be removed easily by dry brushing.

Do not sponge the joints of the brickwork, otherwise it may create permanent stains.

We also advise that with our reclamation styles, the mortar colour is matched closely to the colour of the white scumming (i.e. white to off white mortar).

With our reclamation styles we strongly recommend the use of efflorescence blocking additives such as Efflock.
